Spaghetti with Meat Sauce

Ingredients
  • 1/2 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 6 ounce can tomato paste
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon basil
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons parsley flakes
  • 1 tablespoon Parmesan cheese
  • 1 6 ounce package spaghetti noodles or other pasta
Directions
  • 1. In saucepan, brown ground beef with onion. Drain.
  • 2. Add garlic powder, tomato paste and water.
  • 3. Add remaining ingredients except pasta.
  • 4. Simmer uncovered 30 minutes.
  • 5. Cook spaghetti or other pasta according to package directions.
  • 6. To serve, top with spaghetti sauce and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.

Tips

To store cooked spaghetti noodles for later use:

1. After cooking, place in colander and rinse with cold water until spaghetti is cold. Drain well.

2. Toss with 1 tablespoon cooking oil (optional) and place in plastic food storage bag. Seal tightly and refrigerate.

3. When ready to serve, place in colander and rinse with hot water until noodles are hot. Drain well. Serve immediately.

If meatballs are preferred rather than sauce: Prepare meatball recipe. Prepare spaghetti sauce, omitting meat. Add meatballs to sauce while it is simmering.
