Round Steak with Gravy

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 pound boneless round steak
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 3 tablespoons oil
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 3 tablespoons dry onion soup mix
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1/2 cup mushrooms, sliced
Directions
  • 1. Trim fat from steak and discard.
  • 2. Cut steak into serving size pieces. Rinse with water and dip in flour until well coated.
  • 3. Heat oil in skillet. Place steak in hot oil and brown on each side. Remove from pan and set aside.
  • 4. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • 5. To make gravy: Melt butter in same skillet and add onion soup mix. Stir until blended. Add 1/4 cup flour and stir well. Using whisk, slowly add water and cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is slightly thickened. Add vinegar and mushrooms. (Substitute Easy Gravy, if desired)
  • 6. Pour half the gravy in 9" x 9" baking dish. Place browned steak in dish with gravy. Pour remaining gravy over steak.
  • 7. Cover tightly with foil or oven safe lid. Bake 2 1/2 hours.

Easy Gravy
Ingredients
  • 2 (14 ounce) cans beef broth*
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 4 tablespoons cold water
Directions
  • 1. In saucepan, heat broth.
  • 2. Mix cornstarch and cold water. Stir into broth.
  • 3. Bring to a boil. Pour over meat in casserole dish.
Tips

*Mix 4 cups water with 4 teaspoons beef bouillon.
