2. In medium bowl, combine flour, ginger, cinnamon, soda and salt.
3. In mixer bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and molasses and mix well. Gradually stir in flour mixture.
4. Form into 1 1/2"balls and roll in sugar. Place on cookie sheet about 2" apart. Flatten slightly.
5. Bake 10 minutes. Transfer to cooling rack.
