Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup baking cocoa
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 3/4 cups cold water
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Frosting
Directions
  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • 2. Grease and flour 2 (9") round pans or 1 (9" x 13") pan.*
  • 3. In mixer bowl, combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Mix until well blended.
  • 4. Add water, milk, oil, eggs and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes on medium speed.
  • 5. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Cool 10 minutes in pan
  • 6. Spray cooling rack with cooking spray. Turn cake onto rack. Cool completely. Frost.

Tips

*For cream cake, grease and flour 3 or 4 (9") round cake pans. Divide batter evenly between pans and bake 15 minutes. Cool and fill layers with whipped cream. Frost with Chocolate frosting or Magic frosting.

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup baking cocoa
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
  • 1. In mixer bowl, combine cocoa and powdered sugar.
  • 2. Add soft butter, milk and vanilla. Beat until smooth and creamy.
