Scones

Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 tablespoon yeast
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 tablespoon salt
  • 1/4 cup oil
  • 3 cups flour
Directions
  • 1. in small bowl, sprinkle yeast over warm water. Let stand until yeast is dissolved, about 5 minutes.
  • 2. In mixer bowl, combine hot water, sugar, salt and oil. Let stand to lukewarm.
  • 3. Add dissolved yeast and 1 1/2 cups of the flour. Beat until smooth. Add remaining flour to make soft dough that can be stirred down with a spoon.
  • 4. Place in greased bowl and cover with clean kitchen cloth. With spoon, stir down every 15 minutes for a total of three times.
  • 5. Divide dough into fourths.
  • 6. Roll each into 8" x 8" square.
  • 7. With pizza cutter, cut each square into fourths.
  • 8. Deep fry in hot oil (375 degrees) until golden brown.
  • 9. Serve with choice of butter.

  • Makes 16 scones
Honey Butter
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup honey
Directions
  • 1. Combine and beat until smooth.
  • 2. If stronger honey flavor is desired, add additional honey
Tips

Refrigerate butter. Before serving, remove from refrigerator and let sit to room temperature or until spreadable.

Raspberry Butter
Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3 tablespoons raspberry jam
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
  • Combine and beat until smooth.
Cinnamon Honey Butter
Directions
  • 1. Mix Honey Butter.
  • 2. Add 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract
Orange Honey Butter
Directions
  • 1. Mix Honey Butter
  • 2. Add 2 teaspoons orange juice and 1 tablespoon grated orange rind.
